Lockout, Tagout, Basic Electrical Safety

CLASSROOM TRAINING
Lockout/Tagout is a Cal-OSHA safety standard used to control hazardous energy. This training reviews types of energy sources, hazards of failure to isolate, isolation procedures, use and care of isolation equipment, and shutdown/start-up procedures. Electrical hazards, systems, proper personal protective equipment (PPE), and electrical safety in the workplace will also be reviewed. Regulation: General Industry Safety Order 3314.   • Participants will learn that the control of hazardous energy must be done in accordance with a six-step procedure:
    • Preparation for shutdown
    • Equipment shutdown
    • Equipment isolation
    • Application of lockout/tagout devices
    • Control of storage energy
    • Equipment isolation verification
  • Procedures to keep machinery from being started unexpectedly and to prevent stored energy within the equipment from being released
  • Formal work practices to improve communication and avoid shortcuts to prevent accidents and injury
